Brad Vale, PhD, DVM, Head of Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation (JJDC), joined the company in 1992. In July 1997, Dr. Vale moved to California to establish the Silicon Valley office. Since joining JJDC, he has invested in over 30 companies, including five that were ultimately acquired by various Johnson & Johnson subsidiaries. In 2008, Dr. Vale was appointed to the position of Vice President, Head of Venture Investments. In 2012, Dr. Vale was named Head of Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation. He is based in Silicon Valley, California.
Prior to joining JJDC, Dr. Vale was supporting Johnson & Johnson’s medical device businesses at the Corporate Office of Science and Technology. From 1982 to 1989, he was at Ethicon, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, working on preclinical studies, new business development, and a coronary artery bypass graft internal venture.
Dr. Vale has extensive experience in medical device research and development, including blood-compatible polymers, lasers, microsurgery, novel tissue closure, and hyaluronic acid for adhesion prevention. He is a published author in the area of medical device development.
Dr. Vale received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Iowa State University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University.
